No, not chores around the house. This is HIIT combined with pilates set to House and EDM music.
INTRODUCTION
Sydney Miller is the creator of HOUSEWORK, as well as a highly-respected Soulcycle instructor. A few years ago, she came out with her own class format; mixing high intensity interval training with pilates movements set to EDM and House music- and let me tell you, it's amazing. She normally teaches at studios in NYC, but has been teaching over Zoom during quarantine. She recently (like last week in late June 2020) released her own on-demand service featuring many classic HOUSEWORK 50 minute classes, and also shorter classes with specific focuses.
REVIEW
On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, based on the energy of the class, the intensity level, and overall vibe.
Energy of class: 5. The vibes are so good in this class. Personally, I love EDM music, but if that isn't your thing, you will still enjoy this class. The moves are choreographed to the beat of the music, which I think is great. It's so easy to have fun while taking HOUSEWORK while still getting in a great workout.
Intensity level: 3. While this class is hard work, it's not overly exhausting. I would say the hardest part is the slider series. Sydney choreographs a series of movements using sliders (or socks on hardwood,) light dumbells and sometimes a resistance band. Each slider series usually includes 5 or 6 individual movements. Clients are led through the series usually 6 times, each on the left and right side. She also mixes in pilates movements to strengthen and tone, with other cardio movements to get your heart rate up leaving you super sweaty. For example, one of the classes I did included a yoga/stretching warm-up, a core series, and cardio section with plank jacks, mountain climbers, etc. After that, the class moved into strength moves with light dumbbells, more cardio with boxing moves and intense strength movements, and the classic slider series. The class ends with more cardio, but this time even more challenging to end the class off right. You will definitely be tired, sweaty, and trying to catch your breath, however it's not extremely challenging. The choreography might be hard to get at first, but that's why Sydney takes you through it multiple times. HOUSEWORK is definitely one of those workouts where you are so in the moment focusing on the movements, and not focusing on everything else going on in your life.
Overall vibe: 5. Even through the computer screen, clients can sense Sydney's vibrant energy and extreme passion about what she does. This class hits every muscle and the combination of cardio and strength makes for a great workout.
FINAL THOUGHTS
HOUSEWORK is such a good class and a great option for an at-home workout. You can catch Sydney's class on her new on-demand streaming service and (coming soon) APP or on Zoom during the pandemic- not sure how long she will continue to go live. Zoom classes are $13 for a 50 minute class, or sign up for the on-demand program for $24.99 a month / $300 a year (7 day free trial) for access to her whole library of ready to-go workouts.
