"'F****d up fun' -Zoom class comment"
INTRODUCTION
Me after completing my first Jabs class- "holy crap." Jabs is one of my new favorite classes and the most fun I have ever had in a workout class (especially over Zoom). I literally caught myself smiling during it. Jabs by Gina is an all-encompassing kickboxing/interval training class with light 2-3 lb weights. The first phrase that came to my mind when I thought about the class was "Soulcycle off the bike." It's similar to Soul because Gina DiNapoli, creator of Jabs by Gina, creates sequences to match with the music, like you bike to the beat in a cycling class. Her class types include: JABS X TONE, JABS X CARDIO, Advanced Jabs, and JABS X ABS. Over Zoom she offers "Choreo," "Bands," and other cardio versions of the classic kickboxing routine. The class I took was a mix of Choreo and abs, and it was truly one of the most fun workout classes I have ever done.
REVIEW
On a scale of 1-5, 5 being the best, based on the energy of the workout, the intensity level, and overall vibe.
Energy of Workout: 5. Like runner's high, class takers get Jabber's high after class. I really appreciated how the moves go with the beat of the music because it makes the time fly (no rhyme intended). The music is great and the instructor is super high energy and motivating. Also being that the classes have *no exageration* hundreds of people logged on, the energy is insane. Jabs by Gina has created such a loyal following that the classes sell out quickly. If you have never tried it before, take the 45 minute class on PopSugar's Fitness Instagram.
Intensity: 5. Referring back to the introduction, my initial reaction was sort of shocked at not just how fun the class was, but how tough. It was mentally challenging because the choreography was difficult to grasp being my first class. Gina even said during class "the choreo is hard to get for your first time, if you get it your first time I am concerned." I laughed because I was definitely struggling not only trying to quickly memorize the order of the moves, but to be able to match it to the beat. Class takers will be dripping sweat and exhausted after Jabs, but you will also feel amazing.
Overall Vibe: 4. ONLY because there is a learning curve to this style of class. It's really fast paced and takes practice. Just like Soulcycle, learning to be able to catch the beat takes doing classes frequently. However, even while figuring out how to "jab-cross-squat," your muscles will burn.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I highly recommend trying this class out. It is so fun and a great workout. Gina normally teaches in NYC but has been leading Zoom classes during the pandemic. I had the best time and I can't wait to do it again.
